• Think back to specific instances from the past year that made you grateful to have them. Then write about how much their actions and words meant to you.

• If you have had to overcome obstacles, share with them how essential they have been to your ability to get through it and move forward to happier times. The lessons taught to us by those that love us the most are often the ones that help us to grow the most.

• With the high level of use of email and text messaging as a regular form of communication, have you and your partner one created your own secret language of codes? If so, don’t be afraid to use this shorthand in a loving signoff.

• Pet names are almost unavoidable in a loving relationship; they happen organically and usually bring a smile to their face when used. When writing your note, don’t just use them in the salutation—weave them throughout the text.

• Think of any inside jokes or catch phrases that you use together that make you both smile. Don’t forget to include these personalized tidbits to keep your letter feeling authentic to the unique nature of your relationship.
