Connecting Across the Miles

(November 2011) – The holiday season is a time for being with friends and family and reconnecting. But what if it’s not possible to be together physically? One of the great things about technology and innovation is that there’s always a great new way to share your life with those important to you.

Here are some great suggestions for connecting across the miles, whether you enjoy high-tech or traditional ways of saying hello.

  • Skype date: The old tradition of calling far-away family members takes on a whole new meaning when you add technology to the mix. Set up family members with video chat equipment and then conference everyone in to celebrate the holidays across the miles.

  • Don’t just send a text—justWink! Looking for a sassy way to send someone a funny holiday greeting? Check out the justWink app from Carlton Cards for Android and iPhone.

  • Get social: Holidays are precisely what social media is meant for—share your family photos with those that couldn’t make it instantly through Facebook, Twitter, or your social media of choice.

  • Write letters together: Spend a few minutes while together with family and friends jotting down a special note of thanks to someone who has been a source of support or inspiration throughout the year. Provide stationery, pens, and stamps so that the letters can be sent immediately before anyone forgets.
